Ikat Pillows

Ikat Pillows- Provide Comfort and Style

Ikat pillows cloth is one of the most well-known and beautiful fabrics for pillows put there. It is known as “ipekshani” in Turkish, as “abr” in Persian (which means “cloud”), as “patola” in Hindi, and as “asab” in Arabic. Like clouds, Uzbek ikat pillows come in a wide array of patterns and can be made using a large combination of simple or complex materials. One interesting feature that all these great ikat textiles have is their distinctive dyeing process. This process is undertaken prior to arranging the elements upon the loom. Ikat fabrics have either their wefts, warps, or both (rarely), selectively dyed used in making the pillows. The process that keeps the dye from going into the whole weft or warp is known as “resist dye” or “reserving” and is what produces the characteristics of these cloths.

Ikat Pillows-More about the Dyeing Process

Ikat pillows is using a slightly different than usual dyeing technique because it employs resist dyeing, or reserving, and other similar processes. Bindings are also added to the threads and are used to create a pattern for the ikat pillows. Because bindings resist dye penetration, they can be used to create multicolored, elaborated patterns. The bindings are removed once the dyeing process is completed. The distinguishing characteristic of ikat pillows is the process of dyeing patterns into the threads using bindings. What’s even more amazing is that the cloths are constructed after the threads have been dyed. The history of  ikat  considering that woven fabrics don’t last more than a couple of centuries, it’s nearly impossible to determine precisely where this technique initially originated. There are high chances that the method developed in more than one location. It has been discovered that ikat has been produced in several South and Central American cultures. Uyghurs (a Turkic-speaking group of people living in Central and Eastern Asia) only use ikat for woman clothing. It is now known when ikat pillows became part of their culture.

Ikat Pillows for your Room’s Centerpiece

One of the best aspects of designing your own room is having the chance to use the fabric you want for your pillows, bed sheets and curtains. When you check out some of the magazines for home improvement these days, you will notice that ikat prints are often used and are very popular for pillows and bed sheets. If you want your room to blend with your pillow and bed sheets then opting for ikat prints can definitely help you with that, as this type of prints can actually complement any room theme, style or décor. Take note, however, that combining fabrics is considered as an art. So if you want to use ikat prints to have ikat pillows, blankets and bed sheets, then you have to make sure that you get to find the right pattern for your bed stuffs and find the right fabric for the rest of the stuffs in your room like for your curtains.

Finding the Unifying Color

You may choose to combine different ikat prints for your ikat pillows, blankets and bed sheets. However, you have to make sure that you have a single unifying color for all these in order to tie them together. For example, you may use ikat prints for your bed stuffs while having floral metallic wallpaper to accent your wall and large geometric patterns for your draperies and all these should have something common in them and that is the unifying color.

Choosing one fabric and pulling all the other colors from that fabric can be a great idea as well. However, if you are to do this, you have to make sure that you opt for a fabric that is bold and that can be used to highlight your design or as centerpiece for your design. You may disperse the colors of your theme from that fabric throughout your room – in your upholstery, pillows, bed sheets, draperies and in all your other accessories.

Always consider the texture of the fabric. Fabrics with ikat prints do come with a great texture, thus making it more convenient to use for designs. If you want to have a theme with monochromatic colors for your room, you may opt for various textures to give more live and depth to your room design. You may consider combining your ikat prints with woven wool and chenille and add some silk into it for more glamour.

If you are planning to make your ikat pillows the center of your design, you can pull out the colors from the ikat print and use it to decorate your room. Take note that the combination of colors can add more appeal to your room and this can make it more cozy or welcoming for your visitors. However, do not forget that when basing the color of your room to your centerpiece, you should not forget that texture and tone are just as important to complete the scheme.

Selecting the right ikat print for your ikat pillows should also be considered as well, as you can also use the print as the basis of your entire design. This can help you pull together the scheme that you want to come up with the effect that you are actually looking for. And since you are designing your own room, remember that you should never be afraid to experiment and use your own ideas to make it the room that you have always wanted it to be.

Beautifully Designed Ikat Pillows for Decorations

Ikat is an ancient method of weaving. This involves dying the yarn with intricate patterns before the yarn is used for weaving.  Despite being an ancient method, it doesn’t mean that it can easily go out of style. Whether it is Japanese, Indian or South American, the Ikat pattern is beautifully crafted and will always attract attention. The vivid colors of the Ikat pillows make it beautiful decorations for your home.

Ikat pillows are one of the most popular trends nowadays. Those who are planning to redesign their homes choose these types of pillows to accent the living room or the bedroom. Apparently, because of the different designs it won’t be difficult to accessorize using these beautifully crafted pillows.

Traditionally, ikat pillows or designs are used as a symbol of status, power, prestige, and wealth. Some cultures even believed that it contains magical powers, because of the beauty of the designs. Over time, the use of ikat weaving technique has spread across the world and has been used in many things such as pillows.

Ikat Pillows Never Go Out of Style

If you are looking for some decorating ideas and making your room livelier, ikat pillows would be the best option. Because of the vivid colors and unique design, these pillows are easier to spot. The patterns range from different colors and designs ranging from basic circles to intricate squares and other patterns. These unique patterns make them more attractive and eye-catching.

These types of pillows add color and style to the living room or to the bedroom. It can easily give life to a dull room because of the patterns and colors on the pillows. However, just because the pillows are beautifully designed, doesn’t necessarily mean that you can just put anything on your room because it would look messy. It would be best to learn some simple interior decorating technique to make full use of the beautiful ikat designs.

When it comes to choosing the right throw pillow, you need to assess which throw pillow design would look best for your room. If you have a modern couch, it wouldn’t look good to place an overly designed throw pillow.

Make sure that you choose the right colors of pillows for your room. Since ikat comes in numerous colors, you can choose which ones will suit your room because colors will definitely make a big difference. The color of the throw pillow that you are going to choose should match the color of the couch or the bed, where you intend to place the pillows.

You might get too overwhelmed or excited to decorate using ikat pillows, but it is also important to use the right amount of pillows. It is essential not to use too many because it will defeat the purpose of providing comfort. If you place too many pillows on the couch, it will take time for the person to set aside the pillows to allot space. Also, remember to choose the right size of the pillow. Since these types of pillows come in different sizes, you can choose the size that will suit your needs.

Create a Teenage Dream in This Katy Perry Inspired Bedroom

Katy Perry is as sizzling as a hot summer night (musically, inspirationally, visually and conceptually). She’s been everything from a Prom Queen to a Vamp-Goth to a sexy “nerd”. Her promotional images for her Teenage Dream album really captured her style perfectly. The “California Gurls” pop-star wore a Bettie-Paige style purple wig, a multi-coloured rubber bikini (avec candy adornments) and her feet were encased in a pair of chunky haute designer heels. So what does that say about a Katy Perry inspired bedroom design? Well, it’s all about colour, colour AND more colour, especially “feminine” colours like bubble gum pink, honeysuckle, fuchsia, lavender, and cream (just like the whipped cream that tops off a delicious Katy Perry sundae from her music video!).

One thing that Katy can’t get enough of are animal prints, whether it is a leopard print, cheetah print or zebra prints (just to name a few). In the spring, Katy ventured out in New York City wearing a yellow cheetah print D&G dress with black lace on the trim (that is not available to buy anymore!). She also claimed that her favourite present that she ever received was a leopard-print coat. But although leopard and zebra prints can be trendy, overdoing it on the prints can make your room go from elegant to cheap very quickly. You’re designing a room with Katy Perry in mind, not a bedroom for one of the cast members of InStyle’s hit show Jerseylicious, so keep the tacky for “The Shore”. As well, why not use something that is a little more trend-forward? Ikat patterns are an interesting and colourful print that can add an unexpected touch to your home décor. You can find these designs in almost anything: chairs, bedspreads, blankets, pillows, or curtains. They add an exotic feel and an element of fun to any space and when someone asks where you got that hot cheetah print, you can say it’s an ikat pattern, not cheetah, “honey”. They will certainly spark up a conversation or two in your new Katy Perry Bedroom! However, you can add the animal prints through a sexy LUX faux fur throw for the end of your bed and leopard silk ribbon to edge your lampshades.

When creating a Katy-themed bedroom, don’t forget about pretty florals and splashes of colour, just not traditional floral prints, think outrageous colours and bold and zany prints. Remember the overall sense you want to achieve in your Katy Perry inspired space is a warm and wicked sense of whimsy. One thing that comes to mind is the cover of Perry’s Teenage Dream single where she is every boy’s teenage dream perched upon a fluffy bubble gum-coloured pink cloud. For paint or wallpaper colours, I would suggest warm shades of lilac, coral, and of course, bubble gum pink. These colours are sexy, feminine and flirty – all words that describe Katy very well. Try mixing them all in your space by doing one wall in each colour and the 4th wall in cream, then take a thick chunky stripe of the cream (about 3ft thick) and take it across the other 3 coloured walls horizontally about 1/3 below the ceiling to unify the room and ground the bubblegum palette.

I was also inspired by the outfit that Katy wore on the July 2010 issue of Billboard magazine. On the cover, Katy is covered with flowers from head to toe. So why not follow Katy’s lead by incorporating gifts from Mother Nature into your design scheme? For example, a vase full of pink peonies will make your bedroom feel warmer and more inviting – especially since cold weather is just around the corner and fun/flirty Katy would approve of adding pom-poms in vivid colours of yellow, light blue and pink. Think an Easter basket…but more chic! You can create an arrangement out of the Pom-Poms by grouping them enmasse in a bold sculptural vase. For wall Art find your favourite Katy photo, poster or print and cut it into a dozen or so random sized pieces and frame each piece individually and then group them together on the wall to create the look of modern Art.

Now, Let’s talk about adding even more theatricality and drama to your space through the creation of a canopy. They will add needed verticality to the space as well I think it’s every little girls dream (and many boys) to have a canopy bed (although some may not admit it, it’s probably a dream of many “grownups”). If Katy Perry is one thing, it’s definitely a Princess (she did marry an Englishman, after all!). To top off your Katy Perry inspired bedroom add a canopy over your bed with 10 yards of fabric – find something silky and shimmery to really finish off the look. I prefer a solid colour in your palette and then add some lurid floral and zany animal print cushions. A canopy is very easy to achieve: just put a nice stable hook on the ceiling at the centre of the bed and then let the fabric halves billow from the centre down. If you search online, there are even more detailed instructions for creating your own canopy effects, just type it into your browser! While you’re at it, add a plush headboard that really finishes off that princess feel. I prefer something tufted and overly tall (between 5 to 6 feet in height) and make sure your bedding is sumptions and very tactile with various forms of texture both visually and physically. Teenage “California Gurls” can be princesses too, right?

So next time someone asks you where you spent “last Friday night”, hopefully you’ll say it was in your new Katy Perry inspired bedroom!
